> Iflew to Portland Monday night and met  riding partner Brent Carter 18 years old from Huntsville Alabama the Portland airport has a bike assembly area we put Brad's bike together and got a motel room for the night next morning we took light rail to downtown to the Greyhound bus depot we took the greyhound to Astoria The bike shop there assembled my bike and we left on our trip after much rain we rode 20 miles and stayed at Fort Stevens State park the state parks in Oregon have biker hikercamping areas for six dollars a night next day we rode 40 miles and stayed at Nehalam State Park even though we are riding next to the ocean it is very hilly were climbing about 2000 feet a day and always are at sea level that eveningit rains a lot and we usually sleep in with tents and roll up and put away I went tent in the morning the The next day we rode 41 miles and stayed at rose lodge RV park more rain yesterday we rode66 miles to Corvallis Oregon 2400 feet of climbing lots of rain I fell on the road and skinned my left knee we were ridding on the shoulder of very busy highway18 there was an area where the pavement had sunk leaving a long crack where the elevation to the road level was about 2inches I got up against that crack skidded and was thrown down onto the traffic lane I thank the Lord that there was a break in the traffic and I didn't get hit I dragged  myself off the roadway in time Brent was ahead and came back and helped me straighten the bike out by then it was raining heavily then it started to hail hard we stood there till the hail let up then continued in just rain later I stopped on the shoulder to wait for Brent I fell down the gravel shoulder and skinned the right knee it's all about balance now both knees are the same we got a motel room we were very tired and didn't look forward to setting up tents and sleeping on the ground today we will ride to Eugene
