[C4 Rides] Route advice needed for NCDOT

That route out of downtown goes through neighborhoods that might not be friendly, or safe, to be politically correct. And then when you finally get to 29, I agree with Jim. But I'd go further. With the traffic volume and level of awareness in our area right now, I'm not sure bike lanes would be safe on 29. Looks like you would want to stay on two lanes all the way North, and even then, traffic levels are very high. I would not ride any of those roads given a choice. Someone will need to sit down for a while to come up with a "good route" for the folks who live and therefore would want to ride in that area. If I were mapping Bike Routes for someone who wanted to tour from outside the area, I would not do a route through there at all.

The implication for cyclist who see bike route signs is that the route is safe. It would be better if that were truly the case, even if you didn't get to ride through Downtown Charlotte.

Aren't we lucky to be able to ride outside the fray!

They have been asking me about what I thought about certain routes they were looking to create. One in particular was from PIneville through Uptown Charlotte, to Concord. They have consulted with a group that is familiar with Pineville and Uptown, for the lower portion. For the upper portion Stephen took his best guess.
