After leaving Darby I went to Sula pop 50 I stopped and in my wisdom I decided to have pancakes just before a long climb. First was Lost Trail Pass at7014 feet and second was Chief Joseph Pass at7241 feet I had a very difficult time on Lost Trail Pass it took me two and a half hours at3.5 to near 4 mph I stopped a couple of times to let the heart rate come down a bit. I was being attacked by horse flies and it was impossible to fight back and keep the bike going uphill. I stopped and sprayed myself with insect spray continuing up l found they didn't quit now I am being bit through my shirt on the back I would grab my shirt and jerk it about to shake them loose I managed to make it to the top but I was seriously depleted now where is that Chief Joseph Pass?
I got over that pass a went on to Wisdom pop119
I camped at the V F W campground free
Next day I left for Dillon about 65 miles but I found my legs were fatigued and I couldn't get any speed up or go up hill proper I came to Jackson pop38 I decided to stay there and try again tomorrow always at six to near seven thousand feet wears differently on a person after being in the sun for weeks I am quite brown but yesterday I got sunburned quite noticeably the sun dosen't go down till 9:30 and not a cloud all day however it drops down into the fortys at night I was chilly last night
Well I will try again for Dillon tomorrow
I met a couple on a tandem from New York they are having difficulty on the passes also tandems go downhill fast but sure resist climbing
We were camping together in Wisdom and they stopped here and we are camping in Jackson tonight they also are feeling lingering negative effects of yesterday's passes
To get to Dillon we must clear Big Hole Pass at7360 feet and Badger pass at6760 feet
I hope to have good news tomorrow
